I need your help.
.
This is a brief update about the direction I think Bootstrap Cafe should head – what I want to know is where you want it to go.
And I want you to concentrate only on the most important issues that concern you in the long – term.
Bootstrappers create Businesses, art and movements on a tight budget, which forces Innovative thinking in order to rise above heavily funded competition.
So I want to encourage people that actually think about the way they work and live (instead of those people who absorb media disinformation and rush around in a state of constant anxiety without even realizing it).
That’s why I want to attract independent thinkers to discuss my posts and suggest topics for discussion.
That’s why I introduced the TED banner in the sidebar – not for any personal profit, but because the online talks and books are exceptionally thought – provoking. Click the banner, check the books and go watch a lecture, you’ll love it.
Not that I want a bunch of Thought Leaders to dominate the proceedings: I consider myself an average person and as far as I’m concerned everyone can join in, so long as they make a decent contribution.
This is a place for community.
I want to hear from people in my immediate circle; both from people in my Hometown of Oswestry in England, from UK residents and also from anyone in Twitter / online Worlds.
There are few important themes I want to address here and they mostly come under the Sustainable Living banner:
1. Sustainable community: making the area you live in a better place to live.
As far as I’m concerned, Oswestry is more than a sleepy Market Town and bigger than some of the negative press implies.
There’s a lot of cool things happening here – they just need to be given more exposure. And they’ll get that right here, rubbing shoulders with similar movements from the UK – and from similar communities around the World.
Apart from interviews, guest posts and features I want to pass my Marketing experience on to help local projects and businesses get more exposure at little or no cost via the Internet.
2. Sustainable Living: This is highly personal as far as the way I live – more important than that anyone can achieve the way I exist.
I make a living as a Self Employed Business Energy Consultant, providing energy contracts. So you could say I’m profiteering from the price hikes imposed by oil companies. But I try my hardest to encourage business to reduce reliance on fossil fuels. I actually want to deprive myself of income because I know a move towards renewable energy will help save us all from disaster in the end.
I’ve worked for years to enable myself to work mostly from home. These days you can get to work from home far faster using the Internet.
I commute and use a car much less than the average person and I’m not a big Consumer of stuff in general. I’d rather have time out and stay fit as opposed to being stuck in rush hour traffic.
I use my independent corner shop and local businesses as much as possible.
The way I live is something many of you could do – perhaps you already work and live this way?
So, we can still have fun, maybe less of the type promoted by Advertisers selling us more and more stuff – instead let’s build a more sustainable way of happiness.
This isn’t some sort of Hippy ideal (although I really like Hippies) just necessary if we want to stop operating at near breaking I point. Many of us are obese, stressed, underpaid and unfulfilled.
3. Sustainable ‘Work’ : I’ve done work I hate, or was indifferent to, in the past. It sucked.
I want to encourage people to turn their passion into profit, since it’s always easy to maintain Lifelong momentum promoting something you have a real fire in your belly for.
It’s often more profitable financially as well, because you’re usually creating value for yourself instead of someone else.
in the UK: Five people competing for every job. Over a million people under 25 unemployed. Baby Boomers given crap jobs that take no account of the huge wealth of knowledge in their possession. What a mess.
There is a better way.
This is the Information Age. Let’s make informed decisions instead of existing in a state of repressed and rarely admitted Blind Panic.
So, let’s hear your comments for Things Of Consequence to come here at Bootstrap cafe.
