Bootstrap Cafe : For Innovators

Start Something Big (Free E book)

I’ve been wondering how I can best help my creative friends using my experience and passion here at Bootstrap Cafe.

I wanted to give some awesomely useful advice on how to spread awareness of your art / business using the Internet, plus get paid if that interests you at all.

I’m a Photographer turned Direct Sales / Marketing guy, the latter role for over thirteen years; I’ve also fought tooth and nail to build my own businesses and brands over the years and I know how tough that process can be for you.

So far we’ve had the pleasure of several interesting interviews and I’ll continue that trend of building community, that’s because this Blog isn’t about money as the number one priority – it’s about innovative ideas and how they can spread virally.

So, I’d love to hear feedback from the readers of Bootstrap on my idea to get this short Ebook out to you? Good move or plain wrong?

To give you a flavour here’s an extract from the rough draft in progress…typos and all. Please comment with your thoughts.

How to start something BIG: spread your artistic ideas online the right way

    Topics;

  1. engage your specific audience through caring and passion
  2. give something free; build trust, build a legion of online fans
  3. offer your unique idea or  service to your legion
  4. give honest value and they will “buy in”

Why did I write this guide?

Great ideas are only useful when shared. Innovators are brilliant in conception, but often not good at execution; that is to say, creative people need a simple system to spread their ideas and choose to be paid for their work. We now have the ability to do this simply and cheaply using the power of the Internet.

There is no need to worry

Spreading your great idea Online is actually very simple – you just need to go about it the right way using some easy guidelines.

Although I started my working Life as a Photographer, for over a decade I’ve worked with people, mainly in a Sales and Marketing capacity. For years I’ve been intensively studying outstandingly clever people who spread their ideas particularly well using the Internet. Having absorbed their strategy I now know what really works – and the big mistakes to avoid.

I’ve always been naturally inclined to help other people: Now I’m primarily interested in educating and empowering others to create something for themselves, be that some great work of art, or a whole Lifestyle by design.

The problem; systems are boring

Innovative people find “marketing” their work and ideas mind – numbingly boring and are often uncomfortable with the whole concept of “selling”. They’re right to feel that way because 97% of people don’t respond to shouty salespeople, yet every day we sell ourselves into some idea or product.

I’m here to tell you that you absolutely, definitely need to use systems of delivery to build an audience. You don’t need to “sell” anything at all – people will choose to buy into your idea and even dig into their wallets (if that’s what you want).

The truth is, rubbish products and services sell in their millions everyday, due to a great system of delivery

Let’s look at the fast food market to prove this. The actual product may be average to poor in terms of actual nutrition, yet millions buy into the service every single day.

Why? Because the system of delivery is second to none.

Free toys for your kids, cuddly characters to represent the brand, low priced products to get the consumer “hooked” and constant up-selling to a slightly better package, just 30 pence more for a larger portion makes a massive hike in profit for the company.

Your idea or product is almost guaranteed to be better – so why isn’t it as popular with your target audience? because you don’t yet have a system of delivery.

I would class myself as moderately creative, so I know how it feels to have multiple ideas spinning in your head at once. This is a frustrating process unless you put your ideas into action. I’m lucky to know some incredibly talented people who are very successful simply because they don’t waste any time sharing their ideas with others.

The time for action is NOW

All big movements start small

It’s easy to get so many ideas that you get easily distracted and sidetracked, pulled this way and that so much that you never actually start something and your ideas are wasted and scattered away.

What I want you to do right now is help you get your ideas out into the World.

I promise to keep things fun and effective – I  know how boring this sort of thing can be for creative people, but I promise you that this short guide will be engaging and easy to put into action.

Once you’ve read “How To Start Something BIG” you’ll have a totally improved ability to expose your work to the right sort of people – in quantity.

That’s when amazing ideas really spread their wings.

Your feedback?

That’s it for now; I’d really value your opinions – be totally honest since this will take me some time to fully complete if I go ahead. Counting on you.

Hi, love what you are doing here. Me and my mate run Attic Records in York and think it would be a massive help. Any ideas that can help us engage our customers, keep things fresh and interesting for our online followers would be great. Marketing is tough for us with little or no budget we are resorting to flyers, twitter, facebook etc but I think we need a little guidance and this sounds like just the ticket. Regards, Gaz

Hey Gaz, good to hear from you and love what you guys are doing.

I’m beavering away on the free Ebook right now to be released on the 15th December.

When you need to grow your movement on a shoestring budget you’ve got to get creative with your marketing online and that’s really not so hard.

Whilst you’re waiting for my Ebook there are a few things you can make happen right now

set up a one page website for free – go to http//www.wordpress.com (I never use anything else but WordPress and it’s so easy to set up)

        Write your first post.

say what you offer in one sentence then keep the rest of the info interesting but to the point

Run special offers and special promos / big release days once a month and post them up – in the right hand column of your site ask people to subscribe by email so they can be the first to know about your promos and offers.

You really want to make sure as many people as possible subscribe by email – that way you build a list of ready buyers.

Put a photo of yourselves in the post or side column if you can – it’s good to put a face to your business.

Hey and why not start a weekly night where people get to spin their tunes at a local bar, just like we do at Peoples Vinyl Collective here in Os?
That way you’ll get to meet people that love their vinyl and even inspire people who’ve never played a real record to have a go and they’ll be hooked.

(See the interview on this blog about PVC with Tom Perry)

Anyway, keep you eyes peeled for the free Ebook on the 15th! I’ll announce it on this blog when it launches.

I have a shop in Oswestry, and have a passion for trying to encourage people to use the town centre. Beatrice St, where my shop is, is just out of the main drag, and although it’s near the main shopping area, it’s not where people think of going. So, I have to do whatever I can to try and get people to do down there. Twitter and Facebook are the obvious start, but…
So, I’ve got wall space reserved for local art, being used by http://insideoutart.co.uk/  I’ve also done a website for the street http://www.beatricestreet.co.uk/ which shows all the businesses on Beatrice Street, plus historical pictures. This had a small feature in the Chronicle.
I’m passionate about the stuff I sell, and most people who go in the shop love it too. I just need to get more people to know it’s there, and what it offers. It’s a sensory experience, and everything is VERY reasonably priced.

      I love your attitude!
      Mike

        Hi Mike, thanks for contributing!

social media is a start, but there are far more effective online strategies; most people trying to promote their business online just get lost in ineffective activities.

My question in this post is whether a free Ebook on essential internet attraction strategy is something of interest?

(It would lead to a high value ebook or course for those that want to get serious)

I’d love to see my local economy benefit in the process
